
Another Moriarty Gathering

On Sunday, Oct 21st a gathering of the Moriarty
Clan took place in Killarney, Co. Kerry.
The Gathering was designed to bring people together
and to celebrate our rich heritage in Kerry, the
land of our ancestors.
The day's events kicked off at noon at the Aghadoe
Heights Hotel, Killarney where renowned geneologist
and researcher, Mairéad Gregory (née Moriarty) and
a native of Annascaul gave an overview on the
avenues of genelogical research available to people
interested in tracing familiy histories.
After lunch, the group attended the annual memorial
mass (3.30pm)held at the Penal Mass Rock at Killacloghane
Wood near Milltown where the martyr, Fr. Thaddeaus
Moriarty was arrested by Cromwellian Forces in 1653.
This was followed by a special tour of Ross Castle
and environs at 4.45 pm.
On Sunday night, a special dinner took place at
the Aghadoe Heights.
This was followed by a key note speech by noted
scholar, Professor Donnachadh O'Corráin entitled; "Moriartys
and the Gaelic Families of early
Uíbh Rathach".

O'Connor family (Gliondar) from Beaufort.
